Residential (Shelter Support Services)

The residential program offers a short term emergency 16 bed shelter for women and children fleeing an abusive relationship. The minimum age for women to be admitted to the Shelter is 16 years and older. A woman under 16 may contact other services for support, ie. Family & Children's Services, Columbus House, etc.

  • We provide women and children with support, information, education, and resources. In addition we offer day assessments for women which are initial face to face meetings where women may talk about their situation and needs with a Caseworker.
  • The average stay is 4-6 weeks, however this depends on individual circumstances.
  • When possible, we provide transportation and accompaniment to appointments while at the Shelter (Legal appointments, Doctors, Ontario Works, etc.) There is also a private line for residents to use while at the Shelter, where they can make calls to family, friends, appointments, etc. (We do not subscribe to Call Display).
  • Safety planning is done with women and children when they are at the shelter, and for safety reasons there is a curfew of 12 midnight. As well, for safety reasons we ask residents to let staff know when they are going out, and approximately when they will return. There may be extenuating circumstances ie. work, job placement, courses, apointments, etc. that may require special consideration.
  • We may provide women and children with clothing, and household items, depending on donations that we receive from the community.

Children's Residential Services:

  • Recognizes the individual needs of each child, and may make referrals to other services
