Any action by a friend family member, neighbour or caregiver which hurts a Senior is called Elder Abuse. People often do not see the abuse and neglect of older adults. Or they fail to report it to the police. Physical evidence of Elder abuse is often missed because it is mistaken for symptoms of other medical conditions. Many older adults also believe that abuse by a relative is a "family problem" and are ashamed to tell someone that a family member is being abusive or neglectful.

"Response to Elder Abuse Prevention and Awareness Coalition in Renfrew County" (REAPAC) is a local committee working together to provide public awareness and education to the community on the issue of Elder Abuse.

Where Can Older People Get Help?
If you are being abused, or you think someone else is being abused, you can get advice or help from health and social service agencies. The following agencies is a good place to start.
In Renfrew County the Emergency number for Elder Abuse is 1-800-363-7222 for immediate emotional support & information. You will be connected to the Renfrew Victoria Hospital -Regional Assault Care Program where specially trained Registered Nurses can be reached 24 hours a day.
